Colombian pop star Shakira has been shaking her derrière in music videos and on stage for quite some time. Now, she wants to lend a helping hand to Haiti after it was shaken by a devastating earthquake.
Her Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation has already helped many children in Colombia who have been victims of violence, and Shakira believes her foundation can have the same positive affect in Haiti. She plans to build the Barefoot Haiti School in Port-au-Prince to help the Haitian people get back on their feet after the monster earthquake that killed over 300,000 people and left one million homeless.
“We need to think about the future of this country and of how Haiti’s children can be useful to their societies tomorrow,” Shakira said while visiting Port-au-Prince on Sunday. “Education is one of the fundamental tools with which to develop and rebuild Haiti.”
